Passion flower is a climbing vine that is native to the southeastern United States, and Central and South America. It was used as a food plant and in traditional medicine as a sedative. The herb has valuable sedative and tranquilizing properties. 

Passion flower (passiflora incarnata) is an herbal supplement used historically in treating:

Possible Side Effects

Side effects have been rarely reported for passion flower but may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and mental slowing. When taking passion flower, make sure you don't drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. 

In general, passion flower is considered safe and nontoxic.
